Kenta Cobayashi was born in 1992 in Kanagawa prefecture. He is currently active in Tokyo and the Shonan area. He takes his photographs in response to the question, “What does it mean to capture truth?”, and seeks to push against boundaries through various experimental approaches.
His notable solo exhibitions include “The Magician’s Nephew” at the rin art association (Takasaki, 2019), “Photographic Universe” at Fotografia Europea 2019 (Reggio Emilia, 2019), and “Insectautomobilogy / What is an aesthetic?” at the G/P gallery (Tokyo, 2017). Notable group exhibitions include “Hello World―For the Post-Human Age” at the Art Tower Mito (Mito, 2018) and “Give Me Yesterday” at Fondazione Prada Milan (Italy, 2016). In 2019 Cobayashi was involved with a collaboration led by Mark Weston for the Dunhill 2020 spring and summer collections, and worked on the campaign images for the men’s autumn and winter collections for Louis Vuitton in a project led by Virgil Abloh. His major collections are housed in locations such as the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco (United States).
