The setting for the G-SHOCK WORLD TOUR this time was Sydney, Australia's internationally celebrated (largest) city. The event was held at the grand CarriageWorks convention center, which is often used for concerts and festivals.
The opening press conference started at 7:00 pm. There was a round of applause as television personality and host Jonathan Pease took the stage. After firing up the crowd, he introduced our own Mr. G-SHOCK, Kikuo Ibe. Mr. Ibe wowed the audience with funny and amazing stories about the history of G-SHOCK and its products, as well as the G-SHOCK concept. Sneaker Freaker magazine editor, Woody, and DJ artist, M.A.F.I.A, then raved about how awesome
G-SHOCK is, with M.A.F.I.A then launching straight into a performance. No sooner had the conference ended than the party began.
Party-goers were especially fascinated by the live ice-sculpture carving and the taiko drum performance. The live ice-sculpture carving featured cutting into an ice pillar with G-SHOCK watches embedded, creating a piece on spot using a chainsaw. The result was a giant ice sculpture of a G-SHOCK DW-5600. The crowd responded with a long round of applause. Taiko drummers then performed using drums that, true to their name, were gigantic ("taiko" literally means "great" or "wide drum" in Japanese). It was a rare chance to witness this traditional Japanese art, and the audience listened attentively from beginning to end.
Naturally, a powerhouse Australian DJ line-up was gathered for the event. M.A.F.I.A., DJ Hoops, and DJ Dexter left the audience completely blown away by their performances, which bordered on the transcendent. The final shock of the night featured a massive balloon drop. It was the perfect end to the one-night-only party, with everyone totally loving the idea it as large balloons danced and hovered about the entire site.
